Interstate 580 Nebraska
Interstate 580 was supposed to be a spur from the Interstate 480 Omaha-Council Bluffs loop; since the spur freeway did not meet Interstate standards, it is instead part of U.S. 75 today.
Former Routing
Interstate 580 in Nebraska was the freeway portion of U.S. 75 north of Interstate 480 north of downtown Omaha. The U.S. 75 freeway links Interstate 480 with Eppley Airfield and the northern portion of the city of Omaha. Maps showed Interstate 580 signed on this stretch in the 1970s through to 1983, but the designation was dropped in the early 1980s. Interstate 580 was removed from the Interstate Highway System because of the relatively high cost of upgrading portions of it to Interstate standards. Thanks to Neil Alexander Bratney for this information.
