Interstate 344 Oklahoma
Overview
Interstate 344 is the designation of the John Kilpatrick Turnpike encircling Oklahoma City from near Mustang west to Yukon and north to Edmond. The toll road connects Oklahoma Highway 152, a freeway spur west from IH 44 to the north of Will Rogers International Airport (OKC). The north end ties into to the north split of IH 35 and IH 44 at the west end of the Turner Turnpike near Arcadia Lake. Like other toll roads across Oklahoma, the Kilpatrick Turnpike uses all electronic toll collection (AET).
IH 344 was approved by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission (OTC) along with the renumbering of the Kickapoo Turnpike as IH 335 and SH 152, between the Kilpatrick Turnpike and IH 44, as an extension of IH 240. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) recommended approval of all three Interstate system additions at the commission meeting held on September 11, 2023 (Oklahoma Transportation Commission, 2023, Agenda Item 131).
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation submitted an application to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for the establishment of Interstate 344 along all 30.89 miles of the Kilpatrick Turnpike on October 4, 2023. It was approved by the Special Committee on U.S. Route Numbering at the Fall 2023 Meeting.
