Interstate Business Route 89

Interstate 89 used to have one business loop in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Location Status Description
Lebanon, New Hampshire Decom. Business Loop I-89 in Lebanon is signed with exactly one shield. The approach signs on Interstate 89 itself do not reference the business loop. This business route was originally mentioned by Gene J. Yao, and we drove there to verify its existence in July 2000. As shown in the map below, U.S. 4 through Lebanon, between its junctions with Interstate 89, is cosigned with Business Loop I-89. There are not many reassurance assemblies for U.S. 4 along this stretch, and those that remain are very old, possibly dating to the 1960s when the road was built. The signing is not very well maintained. The 2000 New Hampshire state tourist map does not list Business Loop I-89. Gene suggests, and we concur, that the road may no longer officially be Business Loop I-89, and the signs are just vestiges of another era when it was. But since there is at least one sign remaining, the most northeast business loop in the country is Business Loop I-89 in Lebanon.
