Interstate Business Route 55

Interstate 55 has five business loops.

MISSOURI
New Madrid Active The first business loop on Interstate 55 northbound is cosigned with U.S. 61-62 between Exits 44 and 49.
Festus, Crystal City and Herculaneum Active This business route begins at Herculaneum Exit #178, then goes east for about two miles on McNutt Road (what used to be known as the Herculaneum Spur [or Herkie Spur, for the locals]). The loop then turns south on U.S. 61/67 for about five miles, then reconnects with Interstate 55 at Exit 174.
Cape Girardeau/Jackson Active This business route extends for nearly 15 miles. Starting at Exit 93, Business Loop I-55 enters Cape Girardeau cosigned with U.S. 61 (Kingshighway). Leaving Cape Girardeau, the business route crosses Interstate 55 at Exit 99, enters Jackson, and rejoins Interstate 55 at Exit 105. The Jackson portion of this business route was approved by AASHTO on April 9, 1994.
ILLINOIS
Springfield Active Business Loop I-55 follows the Fifth/Sixth Street couplet, the Spruce/Myrtle Street couplet, Ninth Street, and Peoria Road between Exits 97 and 105. This is also Historic U.S. 66.
Lincoln Active This loop serves Lincoln via Historic U.S. 66 between Exits 123 and 133.
Bloomington-Normal Active Business Loop I-55 follows the commercial Veterans Parkway between Exits 157 and 167. Unlike other business routes, this one bypasses the downtown area to the east, but it provides access to many fine hotels and commercial strips. Business U.S. 51, to the west, leads through the Bloomington-Normal downtowns.
