Interstate 229 South Dakota
Routing
Interstate 229 in South Dakota is a 12-mile freeway loop serving the southern and eastern areas of metropolitan Sioux Falls, providing a bypass to Interstate 29. It is unique in that the freeway changes into a gravel road just north of its northern terminus at Interstate 90.
History
Interstate 229 was completed by 1962.1

| Interstate 29 and Interstate 229 split at Exit 75 south of Sioux Falls. To downtown Sioux Falls, there are two direct routes. The first is to follow Interstate 229 north to Exit 3, which is Downtown Loop I-229 and South Dakota 115/Minnesota Avenue north.
