Interstate Business Route 72
Interstate 72 has a rather new business route in Jacksonville, which was commissioned in 2001. One was proposed in Springfield, but it has not yet been signed.

| The Jacksonville Business Loop I-72 mostly follows the original alignment of U.S. 36 via Morton Avenue. The connection between Interstate 72/U.S. 36 and Morton Avenue is made by the new U.S. 67 bypass (Exit 60). Business Loop I-72 rejoins Interstate 72 at Exit 68. | Chris Geelhart wrote on February 2, 1999, that "a couple years back, some of the local businesses in Springfield expressed some interest in getting a Business I-72 designated (would run along old U.S. 54, starting at the Wabash Avenue exit on the southwest side of town), but I haven't heard anything since." |
